The DRUID Doctoral Dissertation Award 2009-2010
The award is designed to recognize recent doctoral candidates who have completed original thesis work of outstanding scientific quality and achievement in one or more DRUID research areas. The award is intended to provide a forum for exceptional young Ph.D.s to publicize and promote their research and findings. The winner and runner-ups will be recognized at the annual summer conference, and their dissertations will be included on the DRUID web site. The DRUID Doctoral Dissertation Award is accompanied by a prize equivalent to the DRUID Summer Conference fee and a trophy.
Participation in the award is limited to those who have completed their dissertations later than January 31, 2009 and before February 1, 2010. A dissertation is considered completed when formally submitted to and evaluated by the nominee's graduate school and the final version of the dissertation has been accepted by the school. Each nominee cannot be considered more than once. A dissertation may have the form of a monograph or consist of a number of papers but DRUID accepts only English-language version of the dissertation.
Interested applicants should submit
• a five-page summary of their dissertations
• one-page information on the dissertation completion date, committee members, contact details of the supervisor together with a short overview of the doctoral program attended before February 1, 2009.
Submissions should be made by email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the words "DISSERTATION AWARD" in the subject field. No more, no less. Late submissions will not be considered. Please note that the final deadline is February 28, 2010 for the application.
A two-step procedure will be applied. First, the submitted dissertation summaries will be screened and a short-list generated based on the submissions originality, clarity of exposition and significance of the analysis for theory development.
Second, the short-listed candidates will be invited to submit a full-version of their dissertations electronically. The DRUID Doctoral Dissertation Award Committee will perform an in-depth evaluation of the invited dissertations based on significance of the research contribution, potential impact on theory and practice, soundness of methodology and the quality of presentation. The committee will identify the best dissertation and up to two runner-ups.
The decision of the DRUID Doctoral Dissertation Award Committee will be made known to the selected candidate and runner-ups by April 15, 2010 and the Award decision observed on June 17, 2010 during the DRUID Summer Conference 2010, see further www.druid.dk/summer2010.
